One officer, one soldier dead, many soldiers injured  in the ambush attack by the violence attackers in Nothern Rakhine

While conducting area clearance operations in Maungtaw and Yathedaung townships, Rakhine State, government troops were ambushed by about 60 attackers armed with guns, knives and spears near Mayintaung Village  at about 6:45am
yesterday.

The troops fought back, forcing the attackers to move back to Gwason Village, located southwest of Mayintaung Village.
After the skirmish, the bodies of six attackers were found along with one BA-94 weapon and ammunition, similar to arms taken away by attackers in the 9 October attacks on Kyikanpyin Border Guard Post Headquarters. One soldier died and several were injured in the fighting.

Government troops continued their area clearance operation around the village, and when they arrived near Pwintphyuchaung Village, they were fired upon by attackers in the village. When the troops returned fire, the attackers set fire the village and withdrew to Gwason Village.

In the area clearance operation, troops arrested 36 men believed to be attackers in Pwintphyuchaung Village and handed over them to the No. 1 Border Guard Post Headquarters.

Troops who approached Gwason Village in search for the attackers were fired upon by about 500 men armed with small guns, knives and spears near the village. The troops divided themselves into groups and returned fire.

The troops found themselves under attack and outnumbered by attackers until two helicopters from Defence Services (Air) fired on the attackers, forcing them to withdraw to Gwason Village.In the fighting near Gwason Village, one officer of the Tatmadaw was killed.

The troops have stepped up its area clearance operations and are actively searching for the  attackers.
